Type Testing and Screening

Over the years, Cranage has provided a type testing and screening testing service for verifying the safety of electrical fittings that must be CE marked; some of the items tested are shown below.

These are products which contain components (other than a fuse link, switch or indicator light) and are considered to be electrical equipment covered in the UK by the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 1994 (SI 1994 No. 3260). These types of products are also defined in The Plugs and Sockets etc. (Safety) Regulations 1994 (SI 1994 No. 1768) as electrical appliances.

Standards

Below is a list of the main standards that apply to electrical appliances and surge protection devices and can be completed by Cranage EMC:

  • BS 1363-1 +A4 – 13A plugs, socket outlets, adaptors and connection units. Specification for rewirable and non-rewirable 13A fused plugs.
  • BS 1363-2 +A4 – 13A plugs, socket outlets, adaptors and connection units. Specification for 13A switched and unswitched socket outlets.
  • BS 5733 +A1 – General requirements for electrical accessories.
  • BS EN 61242 +A1 – Electrical accessories. Cable reels for household and similar purposes.
  • IEC 60884-1 ed 3.2 +A1 +A2 – Plugs and socket outlets for household and similar purposes – Part 1: General requirements.
  • BS EN 61242 +A1 ed 1.0 – Cable reels for household and similar purposes.
