What Testing Do We Do?
We can offer on-site testing at your premises if your equipment is large or in situ. In-situ EMC tests and measurements are usually undertaken to support a Technical Construction File (TCF) for the tested equipment.
Although it would not be feasible to perform tests in full accordance with the relevant technical standards, Cranage EMC’s testing methodology and procedures have been assessed and approved for product certification. Testing will be performed to simulate actual operating conditions.
It may be necessary to assess more than one mode of operation to maximise emissions or determine worst-case susceptibility.

Optimising Your Testing
Before testing, some thought should be given to creating a test plan, which should contain or reference the following:
- Electrical and mechanical details of the equipment under test (EUT).
- Specific EMC standards to be used or procedures to be followed.
- List of tests, severities and durations which relate to the EUT, taking into account response times or operating modes.
- Performance evaluation specifications.
- Special test equipment is required to operate or simulate EUT performance.
- Reporting requirements for assessing performance or acceptance tests.
- Method of reporting errors, measurement deviations or performance failures during testing.
- A test programme showing anticipated timescales.
- Details of support, e.g., a site electrician or operative to maintain or restore functionality, spares in the event of damage, etc.
- Details of external cables, e.g. shielded/unshielded, purpose, utilisation, achievable lengths, etc.

On-Site Machinery Assessment
Cranage have been performing Machinery safety evaluations for over 10 years on a wide variety of assemblies.
Machinery safety testing is the process of evaluating and assessing the safety of machines and associated equipment before they are put into use or production. This testing ensures that the machinery functions as intended and meets all required standards and regulations.
Machinery safety testing typically involves a series of tests as defined in the relevant standard, for example EN 60204-1, such as functional tests to check for proper operation of the safety devices ( ENO’s , light curtains etc) to ensure that the equipment meets all safety requirements. These tests are performed by our qualified experienced Engineers, using specialized tools and equipment.

Optimising Your Testing
Test such as access to hazardous moving parts refers to the potential danger posed by machinery or equipment with moving components that could cause injury if not properly controlled or safeguarded. This can include machines such as presses, conveyor belts, rotating equipment, saws, and other industrial machinery with exposed moving parts.
To prevent accidents and injuries as assessment for access to hazardous moving parts will be evaluated through safety measures such as:
- Machine guarding: Using physical barriers, enclosures, or safety shields to prevent contact with moving parts while still allowing visibility and access for maintenance.
- Interlocks: Installing interlocking devices that automatically shut off or disable equipment when access doors, gates, or panels are opened or tampered with.
- Safety controls: Implementing emergency stop buttons, safety switches, or other controls that allow workers to quickly stop machinery in case of an emergency.
- Lockout/tagout procedures: Establishing procedures to isolate and de-energize equipment before performing maintenance or repairs to prevent accidental start-up.
- Training and awareness: Providing training to workers on machine safety, hazards, and proper procedures for working with machinery to reduce the risk of accidents.
We review the safety measures and protocols to ensure access to hazardous moving parts are effectively managed to minimize the risk of injuries as defined in the standard.
